This work marks a return to instinct and intuition. My tendency can be to work past a point of recognition, of seeing the essence of an expression, and in pushing beyond that point to achieve more “finish” I can lose the raw power of those first instinctual marks. She appeared from the canvas as a lioness and goddess. Sekhmet is an Egyptian lioness deity, representing healing through destruction and a fiery solar energy
